ECOLE DES PARENTS ET DES EDUCATEURS DE L'OUEST GUYANAIS

Saint Laurent du Maroni, French Guyana

Our purpose is to enable young people from the isolated city of Saint Laurent du Maroni in French Guiana to go to places, which are essential to their self-development or even self-discovery. Furthermore, French Guiana is a really distant area, so it seems important for the young people from St Laurent, to be considered as underprivileged and without access to transnational exchanges, which can be very useful for their European identity recognition and its diversity. This recognition can be provided by European Voluntary Service programme. This approach to Europe could encourage them to consider other options for their future through formal or informal training sessions and therefore make their plans easier. Following a multilateral exchange in the United Kingdom (organised by Everything's possible) in 2007, two young single mothers decided to try European Voluntary Service for three weeks, still in the U.K. in Leeds in May 2008. Two other youngsters followed their path by doing European Voluntary Service for three weeks in July 2008. Moreover, they took part in the Brouhaha Festival as E.V.S. representatives. It was easier for them to make sure they were ready for the 2009 edition of that festival as members of a Guianese-dancing troupe with about ten other young people.

The League of Education

Paris, France

The League of Education is primarily a history: 140 years of advocacy for secularism and universal access to education. The fruit of this story is an associative network that continues to thrive today in all areas or creating social ties, education, culture, sport, citizenship etc. The League of Education is a partner in education: it supports the education of groups of students, provides teachers with teaching tools, discover reading to younger volunteers. It also helps cities and schools to develop educational projects. The League of Education is also the first cinema network in association with 36 French mobile channels and 68 fixed facilities and hundreds of amateur associations, theatre groups, musical ensembles, two sports federations, the USEPA and UFOLEP, and a major vacation area that allows tens of thousands of children, youth and families join each year. The ideals of popular education are allowing everyone no matter the financial and social origin, place of living, education access, culture, and recreation. This means that we choose the associative logic, non-profit area rather than market logic, which leaves on the roadside who, as they say, "not afford".
